Stripe in Pakistan: Is It Available in 2026?

Stripe in Pakistan is a half-yes, half-no situation, and that is why every answer you find online seems to contradict the next one. As of October 2026, a business registered in Pakistan cannot open a Stripe merchant account to accept card payments. But Pakistan can receive Stripe payouts, which is a different product, and mixing the two up is the source of most of the confusion.

This guide separates the two, then covers what a Pakistani business can actually do to take payments from foreign customers. If you were looking for the same answer about PayPal, we wrote that one separately: PayPal in Pakistan.

Is Stripe available in Pakistan?

For accepting payments, no. Stripe’s merchant country list has around 46 countries and Pakistan is not on it. Several guides written for Pakistani and Bangladeshi businesses say the same, including WorldFirst’s South Asia guide, which was updated this month and states that a Pakistan-registered business cannot sign up as a Stripe merchant.

For receiving money, partly yes. This is the part most blog posts skip.

The distinction that explains everything: payments vs payouts

Stripe sells two very different things, and they have different country lists.

Stripe Payments is what you think of when you say “Stripe”. You add a checkout to your website, customers pay by card and the money lands in your Stripe balance. This requires a supported country. Pakistan is not one.

Stripe Connect payouts is what marketplaces and platforms use to pay sellers, freelancers and creators. The platform collects the money, then sends your share through Stripe. Stripe’s cross-border payouts documentation describes this as paying people in countries where the platform does not operate. Platforms that use it, such as Bandcamp and Polar, list Pakistan among their supported payout countries.

So the same person can be locked out of Stripe Payments and still receive Stripe money from a platform that has them as a seller. That is why you will see someone say “I got paid through Stripe in Pakistan” and someone else say “Stripe does not work in Pakistan”. Both are correct.

The payout route has limits. You cannot put a Stripe checkout on your own website with it, you cannot invoice customers directly and you depend on the platform that is paying you. Some platforms also show an “invite-only” warning during onboarding even though payouts still work, so read their country page before assuming it is a block.

Can you create a Stripe account from Pakistan?

You cannot register a Pakistan-based business as a Stripe merchant. So “how to create a Stripe account in Pakistan” really has three possible meanings, and the right answer depends on what you want:

What you want Does it work from Pakistan?
Accept cards on your own website with Stripe Payments Not as a Pakistan-registered business
Receive payouts from a platform that uses Stripe Connect Yes, on platforms that list Pakistan
Use Stripe through a company registered in a supported country Yes, but the foreign company is the merchant, not you personally

4 ways a Pakistani business can accept foreign card payments

1. Register a US company, usually through Stripe Atlas

This is the route most Pakistani founders talk about. You form a US company, get a US tax ID, open a US bank account and apply for Stripe as that company.

Stripe Atlas costs a one-time $500 for a Delaware company. The fee covers the Delaware filing, the tax ID and the first year of the registered agent. After that the registered agent is $100 a year, and Delaware corporations owe a separate annual franchise tax. Atlas only forms Delaware companies.

Things to know before you pay:

  • Atlas says it serves founders in 140+ countries, but we could not find a Pakistan-specific eligibility statement from Stripe. Check the application page for your case.
  • The US bank account is often the harder part. One guide notes that Mercury, the bank Atlas connects to, can reject foreign founders during identity checks.
  • You take on US tax filings and Delaware compliance, plus whatever applies to you in Pakistan. Talk to an accountant who handles foreign entities before you commit.
  • This makes sense when your foreign revenue is steady enough to justify yearly costs. If you expect a few hundred dollars a month, the maths usually does not work.

Be careful with websites selling “verified Stripe accounts”. The account is tied to someone else’s identity and documents. If Stripe asks you to verify, you cannot, and the balance can be held. We would not build a business on one.

2. Payoneer Checkout

Payoneer and Stripe announced a partnership to improve Payoneer’s checkout for merchants in Asia Pacific, naming Pakistan among the markets. Profit Pakistan Today reported it as “soon available” for Pakistani merchants. We could not confirm from the coverage that it is open to every Pakistani business today, so apply and see what Payoneer says for your business type before you design your checkout around it. For export-focused online stores, this is the option to watch.

3. A merchant of record for digital products

If you sell software, templates, courses or other digital products, a merchant of record platform can handle checkout and tax and then pay you out. Polar is one that lists Pakistan as a payout country. It does not suit physical products or custom services, and it takes its own cut, so compare its fees with the cost of a US company.

4. Local gateway for Pakistani customers, bank transfer for foreign clients

If most customers pay in rupees and only a few clients are abroad, you may not need Stripe at all. Use a local gateway at checkout our payment gateway comparison covers the options and invoice foreign clients by bank transfer. Stripe also invested in Karachi-based Safepay’s seed round, so Safepay is one local name you will see mentioned alongside Stripe.

Which route fits which business

Your situation Where to start
Freelancer paid through a marketplace Use the marketplace’s own payout, which may already run on Stripe Connect
Digital product seller Merchant of record platform, then consider a US company later
Online store shipping abroad Check Payoneer Checkout eligibility first, US company second
Agency with a few foreign clients Bank transfer to a USD account and a local gateway at home
Startup planning to raise money US company through Atlas or a similar service

What to do this week

  1. Write down who pays you: a platform, foreign clients or website customers. The route depends on this and nothing else.
  2. If a platform pays you, open its supported-countries page and look for Pakistan before you set anything up.
  3. If you sell on your own website, apply for Payoneer Checkout and get a quote from an accountant for a US company at the same time. Compare the answers.
  4. Skip any “instant verified Stripe account” offer.

How we checked this

We reviewed Stripe’s cross-border payouts documentation, WorldFirst’s South Asia guide, platform payout pages from Polar and Bandcamp, the Atlas pricing page via reviews and news on the Payoneer and Stripe partnership on 19 October 2026. Country lists and rules change, so confirm the current status on Stripe’s global availability page before you act.
